Blogging To Stop Traffic

I once almost got a ticket for picking wild flowers beside the highway. I was unaware that the state designated these spots as protected. I just happened to see the dots of blue and red and decided I needed to stop for a impromptu bouquet. Cars whizzed by causing the flowers to bend in their wake, but nobody else stopped to look at the flowers….at least, until that cop showed up with his own version of blue and red dots.

Then cars slowed to see what was going on. Not for the sight of the beauty in the flowers, but to see if I was going to be tazed and thrown in the back of the cruiser.

In all the years of my blogging I am still amazed at what actually stops traffic.

Dear New Blogger,

If you want to stop traffic, you need to get tazed. Don’t bother with the flowers.

Love, Me

So many times through the years I have researched, wrestled and poured my heart into planting flowers on my blog. Working hard to write a perfectly beautiful post to inspire and to get the traffic to stop to collect a bouquet.

Traffic keeps whizzing by.

But throw together a post that is full of anguish and emotional vomit….

Traffic screeches to a halt and necks crane out the window.

Yeah, you’ve probably been there. If not in writing; in life.

You are on top of the world. Joyous bounty and good things surround you and you smile big enough to infect the continent. Very few smile back.

You tripped into hard times and all of a sudden everybody notices you and talks.

That’s life with humans. It seems unworthy bothering to show your flowers at all.

Yet then again….

Dear New Blogger and Human,

Most everybody is going to notice when you are hurting and very few will actually try to help you. They will stop to look at your heartache and pain. Then they will continue on to their destination. You will be forgotten.

But perhaps if you take the time to plant some flowers in the busy highway of life, one person will stop to appreciate the beauty. They will consider it worth it to stop to collect a bouquet to take home and treasure.

Especially in life, but also with blogging…take the time, cherish the moments and gifts you were given to make a difference. Don’t concern yourself with the rubberneckers who are only there for a moment and don’t really want to be involved. Plant flowers along the way and if one person stopped; it was worth it.

Love, Me

    This is oh so true.

  2. Oooh, I love this and it is so, so true, taking two extra seconds to comfort someone who needs it instead of just gawking never goes unappreciated.

  3. I agree—don’t bother with the rubberneckers! (have always loved that word!)
