Dear Kitty,

Dear Kitty,

I would like you to stop for a minute and congratulate yourself on being here.

No, seriously. You’ve accomplished a lot to be right here.

My demographics are female readers ages 30-45. So, I know you like I know myself.

There was a moment in your past that you realized that you were different than someone and comparably they were better than you. You didn’t give up trying.

There was a time that your best friends forever decided they didn’t like you anymore and you felt alone. You made some new friends or you worked at healing the old ones.

There was a time that your first love broke your heart and you thought you couldn’t love again. You’ve found others to love in your life.

There was a moment that you tried to follow your dreams and fell flat on your face. You got back up.

For a time, you thought you were never going to amount to anything and you couldn’t see one more minute into the future. You went to bed and waited for the next morning.

You’ve made it and you are here. All those bad things that have happened and you have made it through every single one. You might have wanted to give up. You may have had no faith in something better. You may have not understood. You may have thought it couldn’t hurt any worse.

You. Are. Here.

You’ve done a lot of changing. You aren’t ever the person that you were. I’m sure you mourn the times that you were blameless, innocent and optimistic, but you’ve come out on the other side and you are here to live, to love, to give, to laugh and to learn.

You’ve made a choice that you may not be aware of. The choice to say “I’m worth another try.” The choice of endurance may have been nothing more than primal instinct, but you listened to yourself and kept going.

Congratulations.

You’ve come quite a distance and I’m sure a lot of it wasn’t pleasant, but thank you…thank you for knowing you were worth it. Thank you for holding on when your heart was breaking. Thank you for finding a reason to laugh behind the tears. Thank you for learning to embrace your differences and knowing you were special. Thank you for speaking up and for listening even when you felt you were alone. Thank you for choosing YOU.

So, learn to take it easy on yourself. You’ve been through a lot and being kind to yourself, forgiving yourself, laughing at yourself and learning from yourself has what has brought you to here. Everything you were convinced was going to destroy you, you’ve made it through. You are fierce.

You aren’t done, but look back; you’ve already proved you own the strength.
You are HERE.

  1. … and even if it feels like it … I’m not stuck and this isn’t forever. It’s “in between” and “in between” is hard but there are lessons here that are worth learning! And some day … when I suddenly find myself past this hard patch … I will have one amazing story to tell!

  2. I needed to hear this at the *exact* moment I read it. Thank you!!

  3. Thank you for all those same things. Thank you for being here now so that you can share these words.

But… in August of 2014, when I turn 46, will I not be allowed to read you any longer? *grins*

  4. Thank you for this. I needed these words in my heart today.

  5. I’m way over 45 and I still read “…and frankly” Love ya Alycia Mom Thanks
