Life sucks again

That title got you, huh? Surprise, it’s not what you might first think. My new (refurbished, you didn’t think I would change my ways and actually buy something new did you?) vacuum arrived yesterday. I began to unpack it and I felt the floor begin to shake with the quivering of fear from a thousand dust bunnies. My pulse began to race with the unwrapping of each attachment and I felt down right giddy when I saw that they had thrown in a vacuum bag as well. I got it plugged in and set to the “X-Low” setting like I had been using on my old vacuum and it darn near pulled the carpet and pad up from the floor. I popped it back up to the “Med” setting and toodled all around the house creating fabulous vacuum cleaner line art all over the carpet.

Isn't this the most beautiful sight to a homemaker?

Isn't this the most beautiful sight to a homemaker?

It really made me start thinking metaphorically…doesn’t everything? How much easier and productive we are when we are using the correct equipment (until my vacuum came I was on my hands and knees with rolled up packing tape to remove crumbs)

Before I was limping along with an older vacuum that I had to “modify” to get it to keep working. I thought it was getting the job done and became complacent with its productivity and just assumed that this was as good as it gets. Now with my new cleaner, I can see that I had just settled with mediocrity. I was OK with less than standard results because it was what I was used to.

Each day begins with a house full of dirty carpet in our lives. God has given us a brand new vacuum cleaner that is on our porch, just waiting for us to open the door and claim our prize. He wants us to use it to get the crumbs and dust bunnies out of our heart. If we continue to use our packing tape to try to clean the carpet (our way of doing things) than we will never be able to get the job done properly and soon forget how wonderful it could be. By opening the door (our hearts) bringing in the box (His Word) assembling the new vacuum (preparing our hearts to pray) plugging it in (praying with His Truth) we are allowing a wonderful transformation to overcome our carpets (our lives) Only a properly working vacuum cleaner (a heart open and humbled in prayer) will be able to remove the dust bunnies (fear, doubts, hatred, worries) and leave lines in our carpet.

What are you vacuuming with today?
