It’s been a few days since I did any art work in my Bible. I usually take weekends off from any type of major social media presence, but this time my absence was a little more than just a few days of rest; it was mainly due to me sitting in the back of my “cave and licking my wounds.”
This past weekend was full of being attacked. Not just in the normal fashion, but in my art, my words, my confidence, personally, professionally, my faith and my spiritual gifts.
I woke up this morning knowing that I needed to get back into it all. So I flipped though Psalm; since that is where my focus was; and literally sought out the most depressing Psalm I could find. David, in particular, wrote such awesome verses that talk about his struggles with man, God and his own faith. They border right next to abject despair and that’s exactly how I was feeling.
I ended up in Psalm 18
This first part I focused on was verse 6:
“In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help.”
From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.”
How many times have I cried out for help with my small problems and assumed God was just too big and too busy to hear and worry about my earthly issues? Yet, He hears.
“He sent from on high, he took me;
he drew me out of many waters.
He rescued me from my strong enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me.”
So not only does he hear our tiny small voice, but he comes to rescue us from things/people/situations that are clearly bigger than us to fight on our own.
Then, the biggie for me.
There will always be moments that you are in someone’s cross hairs. There will always be somebody out there telling you that you aren’t good enough, smart enough, powerful enough….it is their mission to make you feel so very small. But God, in all His bigness, has a mission as well. A mission to show you who you truly are…good enough, powerful enough, JUST ENOUGH. You are chosen by Him as His CHILD…I think that pretty much outranks what those around us are whispering to us.
I focused on the verses that declare that it is God that lights our lamp. Through Him we cast a light in the darkness of the world. No matter if that light demonstrates itself in your voice, your art, your willingness to help others, your ability to plan things out, your ability to nurture those who are lost or healing the hurting.
And our rock; that thing that is solid that we lean on and build our foundation on? Well it is not those who seek to make us small, but on the One that makes us big. Who leads us to those high places where we are virtually indestructible.
So I want to encourage you today…if you’ve been made to feel that your light doesn’t matter in this Earth; remember that this is what God has given you and nobody has the power to diminish that or extinguish that. Because when you cry out that you need help, that you feel small, that you are insignificant or you are not enough….you have the backing of a very BIG God who created you and filled you with a unique purpose that not another single person can do except you in the way that he designed you to be.
