Last night I watched Nik Wallenda walk across Niagara Falls on a tightrope. For every step of the way, he had his dad’s voice in his ear guiding him with experience and encouraging every step. He knew his friends and family were waiting for him at the end ready to celebrate him whether he succeeded or failed. Trailing behind him was a safety tether that would prevent him from falling into the turbulent water should he slip and fall.
If that isn’t a perfect picture of our lives, I don’t know what is.
Life is a crazy walk. All around us is danger if we take the wrong step.
Our Father’s voice is constantly in our hearts pointing out the dangers and warning us of a wrong step. Encouraging and loving us from the very beginning and to the last step.
The ones who love us are there with us. Watching us make the journey and ready to laugh when we laugh or cry when we cry.
Then we have the tether.
Meet my two best tethers (other than my sweet husband)
These two gals haven’t been in my life the longest, but they are my tethers. I know that no matter what step I take, they will keep me from falling into turbulents alone.
Today I had the pleasure of spending most of the day with them. (Without the 14 kids we share between just the 3 of us – Wooty!)
It was the times in between the laughter at the restaurant, the goofiness of dressing up in boas with pirate hats and confiding our little secrets and pains; that I realized how much these two tether me. They are the ones who will take off their shoes when I get a blister in my rocking cool wedges and give me something more comfortable while they wear my blister inducing heels. They remember the significant dates and make sure I am not alone.
I have been blessed beyond measure with my tethers.
And the best part…I know if I were to leave that wire…they would grab my hands, jump with me and yell “Geronimo”
…and frankly…I couldn’t dream of anything better.
