My favorite moment of watching a butterfly is when it emerges from the chrysalis.
In one moment the chrysalis begins to break open and the caterpillar that had been immersed in darkness and confined in a tight uncomfortable place chooses to emerge.
As it moves completely into the world from its self made prison, everything it had stored inside itself flows into the wings as the butterfly begins to gain strength.
The butterfly test flaps its wings a few times and then in an instant takes to the skies.
The caterpillar form that was restricted to crawl slowly from place to place is abandoned as the butterfly does what it was created to do. Fly.
When you find yourself cocooned in isolation and despair and cannot find your way out of the darkness, remember that this is similar to the place where caterpillars go to grow their wings.
Many times we find ourselves slowly moving through life imprisoned by not living the way we want. A dark despair surrounds us and it becomes time to change.
We could be afraid of that change and decide to stay hidden away in our safe isolation, but that could only last a little while before our soul would wither away and die.
Instead what if we were to take the little bit of strength that we had left and use it to push through that cocoon. Allowing everything that we had stored within ourselves to course through and strengthen our wings. Resting for just a moment in the freedom and then letting go and doing what we were created to do.
We were born to fly.

Thanks so much for this! It is just the reminder I needed this week. The term ‘cocoon’ keeps popping up – such a safe little dark place. I struggle with it, but then remember that wings don’t grow in an hour. But then, time to gather that strength and courage and burst free! To butterflies!
I’m pushing for all I’m worth girlfriend! Hoping to see the light soon!
I can’t believe you can sit still long enough to watch this miracle evolve! š I just don’t have it in me!
Oh I needed to read this, if you only knew how much. I need to find my strength again. Thank you. xo
That is a gorgeous reminder …to reach beyond our restraints And push through!
Born to fly..what a lovely thought.
