Last night I was writing a fun post on FaceBook about how I prayed to God for a cute guy and he answered my prayer. It’s the truth, but it was tongue-in-cheek about how much God must love us to answer the little things we ask for. Then there was a response from a friend about needing proof of His love because she felt that her existence was a mistake.
Ouch! Boy, do I know the feeling though.
We’ve become so accustomed to love as being a show. Flowers brought just to us. A card professing love. A gift of what we want. Someone to protect us. Someone to hold us. When nobody is standing on our door step with those items in their hands for us to take, we feel unloved, not worthy and alone. We feel as though there is something wrong with us and question why we were ever brought on Earth to suffer. We pray and pray; assuming that we are unheard.
You were heard!
Flowers were brought to you. “Song of Solomon 2:12 The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come…” All around us is beauty provided for us to enjoy. Given to us for our pleasure. (OK…there are many ecological values as well) Every time I go out with my camera, to take pictures I am reminded of how much He must love me to surround me with natural beauty.
A card professing love: “Romans 8:37-39 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” That’s just one of the scores of professions of love for us. In my mind I hear it translated that it doesn’t matter what happens or how bad you screw up; I love you more than anything and nothing will take that away. Hallmark (in all its beautiful sentiments) can’t top that one.
A gift of what we want: “Romans 5:8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Talk about a gift! What woman/man doesn’t dream that someone loves us so much that they would die for us? That we were treasured that much? That our life was so important that they would lay down their own life for us? The One who knew you before you were even born…the One that knew every mistake you were ever going to make…the One who knew you would question His love…He died for YOU to prove his love that you might have a life after this one in His kingdom.
Someone to protect us: “Joshua 1:9 Be strong and courageous; be not frightened or dismayed; for the Lord is with you whenever you go” Notice that it doesn’t point out “wherever” you go, but “whenever” you go. He may not beam down in a heavenly light to slay every bad thing that comes to us, but He says he is with us. Life is going to bite hard sometimes; but He is there to protect our hearts. To shield us.
Someone to comfort us: “2 Corinthians 1:3-5 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, (4)who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. (5)For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.” Talk about a powerful statement of comforting us. How many times is it repeated there about our comfort? ‘Nuff said..
My point in all of this is YOU are loved, cherished, protected and comforted in every way that YOU possibly can be. It’s been given freely to you whenever you decide to believe it. If you are loved this much; how can you ever believe that you were a mistake. The bad things that come your way, the disappointments, the sorrow…it’s all temporary. You’ve been given unconditional love that is everlasting by the One who knows you best. He designed you with a purpose on this Earth and every thing that has happened or is going to happen, He has placed in you what it takes to get through it and come out stronger on the other side.
I hope that those who read this post know just how loved they are and how valuable their lives really are. I’m here anytime you want to talk. To listen and love you through it.
